WHY The HSO AMBASSADOR?

the role

What we have observed in these last few years and especially after Covid is that in each Sport Organisation there are always some people more interested in physical activity.

The HSO Ambassador for the organisation is someone within the organisation who is willing to encourage health and active lifestyle and to share their experiences with a network of like-minded individuals.

Assist in identifying the needs of the organisation to improve opportunities for physical activity and help to make a change. Support the organisation on that regard.

Represent your organisation as part of the network of Healthy Sports Organisations and HSO Ambassadors in the International Sports Ecosystem. Profile included on HSO website.

Paul Stretton

Fédération Equestre Internationale (FEI)

Paul is Senior Manager, Sport Communications & Media Operations at FEI. Physical activity is one of the ‘non-negotiables’ in life for Paul now! He has always been involved in sports and fitness, being a competitive swimmer and track athlete in his home country of Ireland in the past.  Travelling opened new opportunities and he became involved in Muay Thai, or Thai Kickboxing while living in Thailand.  After moving to Switzerland, he realised that living the ‘office life’ doesn’t mean having to sacrifice on the benefits exercise can bring to body and mind, and trained up to be a Health and Wellness Coach to help others in a similar situation – with busy lives but wanting to stay healthy and active.

What does physical activity and health mean to her/him?

Physical fitness is not just about keeping your body strong and healthy, but has a huge impact on mental health just as much. This is an important aspect for Paul as it helps to regulate mood, lift spirits and ‘put life in perspective’. Paul advocates for this mental health improvement just as much as the physical, and he incorporates this aspect into his advice for anyone looking to understand the benefits of exercise. Paul is looking forward to working with the HSO to incorporate new initiatives that will help promote the health and fitness of his colleagues at the FEI.

Jodie Cameron

World Rowing

Jodie is an Events Coordinator at World Rowing, mainly responsible for managing European Rowing events and Para Rowing Classification. She has been in her role for 18 months and, as the youngest staff member at World Rowing, she likes to think that she brings some fun and energy to the office. The team knows her as the one who does a lot of sport (and eats a lot!); maybe this is why she has been appointed as the Healthy Sports Organisations Ambassador!

What does physical activity and health mean to her/him?

She rowed from age 11 to 24, and thanks to those 14 years of competitive rowing, physical activity is now engrained in her daily routines. She can’t imagine not having an active lifestyle; She love running, cycling, swimming, hiking, skiing – you name it! (Like most rowers, ball sports are not her strength, but she still enjoy the annual summer volleyball tournament!). Her health is a number one priority for her. Working in events can be demanding with long days and little time to exercise, but no matter how long the days are, she makes sure she finds time to exercise during the trip, even if it’s a 15-minute HIIT workout when she wakes up, or a 20-minute run at the end of the day. Physical activity energises her, and helps her feel refreshed, so that she feels ready to take on any new challenges. She is looking forward to working with HSO to better understand the needs of her team and see how we can help the staff be more physically active and healthy.
